FAQs
When should I arrive in Skopje?
Whenever you want, but Wednesday, May 28th is probably best. We’d love to host you at a welcome dinner on Thursday night and a hike in Matka Canyon on Friday. Wednesday is also a good arrival day for time acclimation if you travel directly from the US.
Can I bring my partner/friend/parent?
If your invitation says 'and Guest,' then yes, you're welcome to bring someone! If not, but you have someone in mind, please get in touch with us. Numbers are limited, but we'll do our best to accommodate additional guests where possible.
Can I bring my children?
If you have very young children for whom you cannot arrange childcare, then you are welcome to bring them. Otherwise, we would kindly ask that you leave your older kids at home unless we have specifically invited them as well!
Currency? Phone Plans?
Macedonia uses denars; and the exchange rate is about 60:1 for euro. Most places take cards or tap-to-pay, you mainly need cash for taxis. As exchange rates are bad in the airport, we recommend bringing Euros (which taxis take) for your fare to Skopje which should be 1000den (15-20 euros). Once you are in Skopje, you can go to this place in Debar Maalo or this place in the Central Mall to exchange for denars.
If you don’t want to pay international rates, (usually like $12 a day) we recommend getting a Macedonian eSIM before you arrive on T-Mobile/Telekom. This costs 499den (~$10) total and gives you unlimited calls and 15GB of data. (NOTE: on the checkout, there is a confusing hiccup: it requires a “contact phone number” with a Macedonian area code. For this, you can use mine: (389 786 730 28). It won’t matter - the eSim will be sent to your email address.)
Is there someone I can contact if I have any other questions about the wedding?
You can always contact Mishel (+389 76 972 907) or Nathan (+1 707 295 7547), preferably through Whatsapp.
Should I bring anything?
Hiking clothes, with something you can potentially swim in! Make sure to review your airline(s) baggage allowance and the weather in Macedonia beforehand.
Is Skopje Safe?
Very. Mishel and Hana grew up walking alone at night as kids. Just keep track of your belongings and avoid silly tourist mistakes. If you’re overcharged for a taxi (or anything else), call Mishel (+389 76 972 907) - we can sort this out.
